whispers of a flu bug

halloween

 on-ramp             shedding damp leaves

somehow we've arrived
at the same red light
smiling teenagers

limbs almost bare
the stillness left
by autumn wind

before man

walked on the moon

the cottage couch

It's almost a full moon, bandit.

here I am
intermittent wipers
clear the mist

still huddled over his putter
   muttering
autumn wind

an hour 'til autumn
the porch primer
tack dry

darkness —
my only son
steals the blankets

turning another page
the bookmark couldn't keep
rolling thunder
